The Friday E-Mail

Hello to one and all!

Spring is finally here, as the lilac and white crocuses shoot up through the lawns at school, daffodils open up to embrace the unseasonable warmth we’re having and the first buds appear on the trees. What a time to be here, to be seeing the sights, smelling the smells and enjoying the start of such a joyous season. So, get your shoes on, wrapped up if the cold wind is blowing and get outside, be it on your bike or by foot, and enjoy the season whilst you can. That’s my plan at least. And, if you can, take some photos, the weather is supposed to be good, I think.

I know I say this far too often, but still, what a week it’s been. Just looking back at the past couple of days fills me with so much joy and good feelings, that I seem to have completely disregarded Monday and Tuesday. So, if you remember something of Monday or Tuesday, then feel free to post them on my blog.

After such a great weekend of fun, with the Friday night outings at Tiggis’s and then at James’s the week got off to a fantastic, albeit a somewhat sleepy, start. But, this is the last week before the Easter Holidays, and the last week of a mere 5 week half term, so it hasn’t been all that tiring, really. This was the week to come close to finishing syllabuses, to iron out any problems and the run-up week to masses of synoptic revision over the next three weeks. What fun, eh?

Tuesday night had to be my best driving lesson ever, as I did a pretty good drive, before burning up the clutch a little as I reversed up my drive. It’s steep, let’s put it that way, and lots of revs were used, and a foul smell filled the car once I’d finished. **chuckles** Ahh well.

Wednesday has to be a favourite day of the week though. Lit and Deb, even though I came a mere third in the balloon debate alongside Mr Dylan (Henry) and beaten by Sue (Freddie Mercury – the final winner) and a marvellous piece of speaking from James (Dave Grohl) entitled him to a well earned second. And we look forward to him speaking many times more. Even though we only have five more weeks left. Rose, chairing for the second week in a row, did her best but couldn’t get ‘Grohl’ right up until the very end. Ahh well, you got there in the end!

Then came the joys of house day! A perfectly good sports lesson cancelled for our whole school competition. I must say, I missed my game of badminton, doing instead chemistry notes as I was free during round 3. But, in round 4 I excelled at the swotty event of them all – The Library Challenge. With my team of 1, another team of 1 and then a team of 2 as one team didn’t show up at all, we went down to it. 130 questions, all the library books to help with them. So many hard questions, and only 40 minutes to do them. The final scores were 19 to 8 to 8, with the 19 against my name! (I only did the easy ones though.) I was filled with great house pride with that one! But, Wigan won’t win, not a chance. With Chorley’s exploits at the football (Chris helping them to victory) and Manchester’s dominance in the previous house days this year, all we Wiganers’ can do is hope.

Then came today, Thursday, in all its half hearted glory. With most of the German staff on the German exchange, German lessons were cancelled, allowing Scott and Chris to scarper off home early the lucky devils. The morning was pretty much the same as always, with Kyle back from Leeds once more, and lessons progressed pretty smoothly. It was lunchtime which was the most fun though. On my lunchtime patrol, wandering around and around the school nothing much was happening, apart from the water bombs being thrown about around the chemi blocks, which we tried to deal with as best we could before getting Mr Harrison to sort it out. The most fun came at the end when a Year 8, I think, managed to get himself stuck behind the venders. We’re still not sure, but he clambered over to fetch a ball he’d thrown behind them. Once over, he threw the ball out before realising he was stuck. Left crying for help, once again it was up to Mr Harrison to get help from MacMillan to rescue the poor little soul, trapped behind the vending machines. Oh, how he’ll be mocked for sometime.

But, I’ll leave it there for this week, as the Malaysian Grand Prix is upon us, the final preparations for my “wink-wink-nudge-nudge-it’s-a-secret-really” gathering will be put into motion, and general enjoyment of the season. This is the Easter holidays, where a pleasant mixture of revision and fun has to be had, regardless of the upcoming exams. So, I look forward to seeing you all at some point before we return from this three week break which we all fully deserve.

So long for now!

The Friday E-Mail

Hello to one and all of my special furry little friends.

Yes, it’s that time of the week again, but two days late. I know, I’m sorry for the delay, but I was out the last couple of nights, which scuppered the Friday E-Mail going out on the Friday or the Saturday. But, here it is, in all its glory!

What a week it’s been though. It really has flown by in the blink of an eye, and taking stock of a week’s worth of events is tricky, but I’ll do my best.

Last weekend saw my Parents’ Silver Wedding Anniversary, and with it a hell of a lot of drinking. A mere 20 bottles of wine, 60 bottles of lager and 33 pints of Boddingtons were consumed over the evening, with so little soft drink it doesn’t really fit. But, as we still eat the leftovers, the left over drink is yet to be drunk. Good news, eh?

Moving swiftly on though, the Melbourne Grand Prix was a disappointing race, with confusion galore, and a different winner than a Ferrari! Yes, Giancarlo Fisichella took only his second race win ever in the Renault to go top of the championship, and my Grandma won the race and the £2 that came with it in the Fantasy F1 Competition. I came second, and I still stand by the fact that the fantasy championship is not fixed, even if the money did stay within the family in the season opener, much like last year!

The week brought with it the same challenges as the weeks prior, with work at a more or less stagnant level.

At Lit and Deb, the floor was lacking in speakers, with Miss Noden doing most of the work, as other people’s absences were duly noted. Rose did well chairing over such a quiet debate, and the speakers, even if I say so myself, weren’t half bad. On the musical heroes thing though, speakers are always welcome, so do not hesitate to come forward and suggest yourself for the job. A balloon debate is the perfect one to go in for, it’s more light hearted than most of the time.

But, results day on Thursday saw a magnificent pick up of spirits, as everyone enjoyed at least one good result in it all. And that feeling stayed well into the weekend for most.

Friday saw the most fun from the entire week though.

As James Appleyard shaved his long blonde locks for Comic Relief, to become a skinhead again, raising no less then £250 in the process, preparations were going into preparing for the night time, as a food run by Mr James and Chris was in process. It was a good fun night, with a few friends, a couple of DVDs and lots of beer, not forgetting the 2 a.m. pancakes! A very quiet affair, really, but a thoroughly enjoyable one at that.

This weekend has been another quiet one though, with the end of West Side Story as the “highlight”, I’m hoping to find more to comment on next week.

Oh, I forgot the main highlight. The FA cup! As United romped through with a 4-0 victory, to join Blackburn and Newcastle in the semis, Bolton lost 1-0 to Arsenal. But, I’m sure I’ll be told why they should have won on Monday. **smirks**

But, with the new format of The Friday E-Mail to be launched in a mere ten minutes, I’ll leave it at this for now.

See you all on Monday or after.

Paul

Launched

Ahh, what a day this is.

A glorious Sunday afternoon, with a near clear blue sky marked only by the vapour trails left by the aeroplanes and the little whisps of cloud that never seem to go away. A cold breeze may be flowing, but this is a beautiful day for mid-March, and I've enjoyed it to the full.

But, today is the launch of The Friday E-Mail Blog, (Yes, on a Sunday), and I invite you all to spend some time, create yourself an acocunt and blog, blog away. This is for all of us, not just me.

Reply to my main weekly post, make comments about events from the week, argue with the others, use it to market your very own special events, I dont mind, as long as you so use it.

All thats left to say is, Happy Blogging!

Paul
