The Friday E-Mail
Ahh, my fuzzy little friends, I’m writing again!
Yes, that’s right, it’s finally Friday again and here’s the celebratory e-mail to reign on that fact. The staple e-mail that Friday just wouldn’t be complete without is here in your inbox once again.
The weekend, as I try and remember it, was pretty uneventful. But, I had better things to do, like take the car out for a spin. It can move, I’ll tell you that, and I soon had it blasting down the East Lancs at 70mph, no problem, but much to the surprise of my dad who was sat in the back. More trips out are planned for this weekend, I can assure you.
How dull has this week been? Really? I ask you. I really do. Nothing’s happened. That’s right, nothing! Please, by all means tell me what has happened this week that’s worth a mention.
With the new pope being elected, a devout German who likes the old style of Catholics, so might throw up some interesting statements during his Papacy. His comments about abortion, women and the disabled aren’t doing him any favours though. This is the most influential man on the planet though, with over a billion people taking note of what he says from the most powerful of all rulers, their link with God almost. It’s pretty scary just how much influence he may have over some people.
Perhaps, the crowning moment of the week was Laura’s Lit and Deb Challenge. After proving herself an adequate thief, stealing Richard’s watch on numerous occasions during the debates, I set her a challenge that’ll put hairs on your chest. (Or show his at any rate!) Yes, her challenge, which she has chosen to accept is to remove Mr Richard Thornley’s shirt during a Lit and Deb debate. The prize, which I have to award at the last debate of the year will be a certificate and/or trophy to celebrate her triumph and a really big cheque. That’s the challenge, I can only hope for the sake of my bank balance, and all our eyes, that she fails. Sorry! This set tongues wagging enough about little Laura, but the pictures of her magnificent self at a formal dinner over the weekend, made sure she’d be a sound topic of conversation for a few days at least.
Thursday saw James flagrantly flounce school rules, (and face his comeuppance) and me collect my chemistry certificate in assembly. Oh yes, great fun all round. Especially with Kyle’s mysterious two day disappearing act on a job interview at Shell. They must have kidnapped him and got him to work at the pumps for the rest of his life! Poor guy! Still, he can work out the rate of flow of petrol and put it against pence per second or something. That’ll cause a queue!! Haha!!
But, on to today, Friday. National hug day!! I got mine in, oh yes! Rob completed a mightily worthy quest at lunchtime, signing out of school to attempt his harsh journey across the miles of road all the way to Tesco at The Middlebrook. As he and James struggled through the heat and the blinding sun on an truly epic journey to buy a kettle. As cheap as possible, but a kettle all the same. Unfortunately, the target price wasn’t met, but at least he succeeded in returning from this far away place in time or afternoon registration in one piece, complete with kettle, so hardly a wasted trip.
Still, with the grand prix fast approaching, a mere 40 hours* away and the Ferraris’ once again getting trounced in Friday practice by the McLarens’ this week, and a Renault, a BAR and a Toyota! A Toyota! I ask you, they were no where last year, and now they’re challenging for podiums?? The car in front is a Toyota alright, but at least there’s normally a Renault in front!
Still, I’ll leave it all to be settled on the track on Sunday afternoon. It’s a good one, nicely tight, overtaking opportunities and some great history. Senna lost his life at this very circuit only 11 years ago.
And on that happy note, I’ll call it a night and leave you to get as many hugs as possible in the final hours of the day.
Hope you all manage to see the race, it should be another close one, and I’ll see you all again on Monday, or at least next week.
Bye bye for now!
Paul
