Fantasy Formula One

Heidi Hey!

It's only two weeks until the excitment begins of Formula One 2006, and once again I'm running my very own Fantasy F1 Championship.

It's only £5 for 18 races of pure adrenilin fuelled excitement (working out at less than 30p per race!)

So, for further details like rules or teamsheets, just drop me an e-mail and I'll get right back to you.

See you all over Easter

The Friday E-Mail - A Return

Heidi Hey to one and all of my fuzzy little friends!

Yes, this is THE return of The Friday E-Mail, a now monthly issue just because of the separation between us all, and the fact that time is short at uni for everyone.

It's been a great January for me. I've settled in properly now, and made the friends I need to feel happy in a place that I can almost equate to home.

For others though, the times are hard as they find themselves in a middle ground with not all that many options. To them, I say "You'll be fine. You've got some great friends behind you if you need them, but you probably won't. Just enjoy the ride!"

I'd like to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug my Fantasy Formula One Competition 2006. After a stunning season last year, this one will be even better as 5 teams are realistically touting their chances for the titles. It's going to be a good 'un. And, with an interesting race on track, the fantasy formula should be just as tense and nerve-racking as last season, so join the fun! You should have the forms already with you, but if not, just e-mail me and I'll make sure they find their way to your inbox.

I'm not sure what else there is to say, really. I hope you're all having a fabulous time at your prospective places, and after speaking to a few of you in the past week, it sounds like that fits for the majority. If not, you know where we all are if you need.

Have fun everyone! Relax after the exam stress and enjoy the sleep – I mean lectures!

Ta taa!

The Friday E-Mail - End of 2005 Special

And it is a positively massive hello and a huge wave to one and all of you!

It’s New Year’s Eve Eve and my enviable task to sum up a year’s worth of events in one short and sweet e-mail. Can it be done? There’s only one way to find out!

The year started out promising, moods high and buoyant after the Paddons’s’s’s’s Christmas Special. And that mood continued all year long.

Exams did face us (be they A-Level or GCSE), but we didn’t let that affect the madness that was 2005.

With so many films to choose from out of all the Manchester trips, perhaps the most memorable was ‘Sideways’. There were only four of us on the trip, but nearly everyone has heard of it.

Of the concerts, just some of the acts people went to were: R.E.M., Thirteen Senses, Green Day, Razorlight, Feeder, McFly, Aquarelle, The Zutons, Idlewild, Coldplay and so many more… A favourite I can’t say. Different people went to different ones, and with different tastes for everyone, it gets even harder. Safe to say fun was had by all that went to any particular gig. It was a year of great music after all.

Charity wise, nothing much was done. But seeing Mr Appleyard shave his lovely locks for Comic Relief is something that will remain in the mind for sometime yet.

Sport wise, lot’s of football supporters went here, there and everywhere to show their loyalties to their own team (and good on them, I must add) but perhaps the most memorable moment would have to be the last day of the Old Trafford test in the Ashes series. The weather was good, the atmosphere terrific and a marvellous time was had by all who managed to get up that morning and make it in time.

Other bits worth a mention must be the regular T2 Su-Doku championship between Chris and anyone feeling lucky enough to prise it away from him without losing their life. The many, many Manchester trips, all of them different yet similar in a bizarre kind of way.

Perhaps the event written most on my mind, well, series of events really had to be our parties. Sorry, ‘get-together’s’ or ‘gatherings’ as they were once known eventually expanded and ballooned out to be full blown parties. What a time we had!? More than 19 events over the year (and there’s only 52 weeks in a year – making it nearly once a fortnight, which isn’t bad at all, really) each one with a noticeable part. The chicken covered tree at the Easter thing, the party poppers’ at Rachel’s, Scotty’s numerous Parfait Pool Parties, the 18th after 18th after 18th (Rambo’s – The chimnea incident, Mine – Syphilis people!, Clarkey’s – a month late, Chris’s, Rick’s and James’s as well) the party for the sake of a party, the BBQ for the sake of a gathering, Clarkey’s wrist breaking, the Inaugural Tyldesley “Pub Crawl” (it was a rambling pub visit, really, but we did have good ol’ Crotch-hole), the curry, the beer tasting party (so many beers), the night at Tiggis and not to forget the infamous ‘Last Roll of the Dice’ with Kyle getting drunk, the celebrating CD/DVD and the Human Jenga games of the morning.

Of course, the nights after big result days were fabulous. With the A-Level results bash heading out to Manchester for a Chinese before The Norwegian Blue and Revolution before heading for home again. And the GCSE results bash at Laura’s with drink spilling a-plenty for some reason.

It was our last year at ‘The Fun Factory’ and then heading off to uni for most of us, and the end of Year 11 for practically everyone else, giving everyone ample excuse to get all dolled up for the leaving balls. That ‘Class of 2005’ still leaves me cringing, but it was the one down point of a great night, and the photo from the end proves that perfectly. What a year to go out on though, with the fantastic Lit and Deb moments, ridiculous arm-waving and Clarkey speaking as Dave Grohl in style. The rastibations of C3 (My favourite would have to be the sheep), the coffee, the visit to the girls’ div common room and so many more unique memories.

Perhaps the main was how well we managed to hold as a group, hosting party after party at different locations all over Bolton and its surrounding areas. And then keeping in touch whilst being at uni, before retuning into the bosom of a great group on returning in December to The Christmas Meet-Up at The Lion. The BIG round will stay with me for a little while yet. It’s been an astonishing year, it really has. (Especially when you bear in mind we could produce a CD-DVD to celebrate the summer alone!)

OK, so this e-mail was a little rushed, but how can you summarise such a fantastic year? You simply can’t! It’ll stay with me for some time, and rightly so!

This year has been fantastic. Perhaps one of the best of our lives. But it’s nothing without everyone else. So a big thank you to all of you good people!

Have a great New Year celebration, and I’ll see you all in 2006!

The Friday E-Mail - Christmas Special

A massive wave to one and all!

As many people on MSN are pointing out, it is in fact Christmas Eve eve, so it seemed like the right time to produce a special Christmas Edition of The Friday E-Mail.

It’s been quite a week though as all the university people (except one) returned to Bolton for the Christmas break and then made it to the Christmas Meet-Up on Wednesday evening. It was great to see everyone again, all in fine fooling as we played pool and generally chatted away all evening. The turn out was unprecedented at 16 people by my reckoning and each one was as welcome as the next. I didn’t falter on my word either and The Big Round was a near success, but for some bizarre reason, Scotty was missed out. I’m not at all sure why, but I’ll make sure he gets the pint that’s coming to him. And at a round cost of £20.76, it was worth it. Great thanks go to Mr Popplewell for giving me the money to make the round possible. Without you lot, I wouldn’t have it, so sharing the wealth was the only option! I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again, it was fantastic to see everyone again, and even though the time flew by on the evening, it was great fun just be there. Well done to Kyle as well for driving up from Chester after a hard days graft just to see everyone again, oh, and deliver Soph’s clothes. Every job has a perk, I suppose.

And with Sean’s birthday on the following day, and a fantastic night out as well, it’s been a good week of fun for most, but perhaps a troubling week for the livers. You only live once!

On a different, and slightly more troubling note, it appears that Emery has his own little stalker! Someone quite random has been speaking to him over MSN, with a full description of him, leaving him completely baffled as he doesn’t have a clue who she is. Good luck with that one.

Finally, best wishes to the climbers going over to Yankee-land to have fun in the land of The Joshua Tree. Now remember that the drinking age is 21 over there, so those of age can drink illegally again! Lucky guys. With you being over for the new year as well, I’ll wish you all a happy new year now. Have a fun break and enjoy the fun!

So to everyone, have a very merry Christmas and I hope you all get a nice big pressie off Santa. Sleep well, drink and eat moderately and just have a whale of a time!

Bye for now

The Friday E-Mail

Hello and a huge wave to one and all!

Christmas is once again upon us, and people are returning home left right and centre this weekend. To all of them we greet with open arms and a big smile.

Add to that the fact that school's broken up as well, and it turns out we're all freeee! (Well, apart from Kyle and Soph who are still busily working away at Shell. They're trying to make it to the Christmas Meet-Up though, which is always a good thing.)

Just a short and sweet little e-mail tonight to welcome everyone home and to start the seasonal fun. (Apparently saying 'Christmas' for 'Christmas Holidays' is not P.C. any more and needs to be replaced with seasonal or festive. Something about it being offensive to other religions. It makes no sense to me though, it really doesn't. If you can explain, then please do.)

See most of you at the Christmas Meet-Up (or should that be The Festive Meet-Up?)

The Friday E-Mail

A huge hello to one and all.

It’s Friday 9th December 2005, the second Friday in advent, isn’t it? Not sure how special that fact is, but I thought it was worth a mention.

After a term of toil and graft, the inaugural term for the university people, and the sixth form people for that matter, is reaching an end. Tired and well worked, it’s time for a rest back home, time to recharge and perhaps more importantly, time to see each other and catch up. Sticking with this purpose of Christmas, the great Christmas meet-up will be held on Wednesday 21st December in The Lion of Vienna at 7pm. And as further sweetener to the deal, your first drink* is on me.

It’s good to know it’s nearly time to go home. As the end of term was last week, this place is deserted, bar three more first years and any interviewees we can find. It’ll be nice to return to the vibrant roots of Manchester and its surrounding hidey-holes.

I hope everyone else has had a fantastic opening term to their new studies, and that it only gets better.

That’s about all that needs to be said, I think. Oh, just one more thing. There have been muted ramblings that I have begun to pick up a southern accent. This just isn’t true. My accent has changed ever-so-slightly, but I think everyone’s will have done, but it’s not a southern accent at any rate. This is another good thing about coming home; I’ll be surrounded by northerners again, rather than these southerners down here. There’s just too many of them!

See you all pretty soon. Christmas is only 16 days away, after all!

It Finally Happened!!

Well it had to happen, didn’t it?

Six months of speculation.

Four months of a sweepstake.

And finally, our best efforts have finally come to fruition!

Kyle and Soph are now, at long last, as one.

This breaking news is brought to you by the one person who probably aggravated them the most in their “courtship” and was very pleased when they decided to stop sharing their tongues to tell him the glorious news. As I bounce about at my desk, leaving my friends in confusion as I ran down the stairs shouting “It’s finally happened!” back at them to explain my sudden disappearance.

A six month crescendo to the inevitable lead to a sweep stake in their third month as we got tired of them saying there was nothing going on. Something had to break, and we nearly all put money on that fact. Expecting it to run and run, and Pete Thornley to collect the entire 70 pence jackpot after 12 months, no one gave second thought to the glorious sweepstake. But now, only four months in, we have a winner. Or, well, a pair of winners.

Rose and Niksa lay their claim to the entire 70p winnings fund to be shared equally between them. We make it about a Mars bar each, you’ll be glad to know. Monies will be collected and dished out again over the glorious Christmas period, but I’m off to buy some random people drinks for random people who they don’t know!

Bask in the news and don’t forget to offer them your congratulations.

See you at Christmas!

Paul
