The Friday E-Mail

A huge hello to one and all of my much loved and cherished Friday E-Mail readers.

This end of this week sees only one more complete week off school for those returning into sixth form, less than that for some going back to primary school and a good few weeks for the rest of us. This proximity of the school term marks the resembling of our very unique group, with fewer people on holiday than at any other point this summer meaning that our so-called “gatherings” are turning into fully fledged parties – much to the delight of the owners of the houses we are duly damaging. Why were so many drinks spilled at Laura’s? And on such a nice carpet as well.

But, on to the events. It was perhaps the last 18th birthday party of the summer as Rambo celebrated his 18th in some style on Saturday with a BBQ, sleeping in tents and a warming fire. OK, so the fire may not have been the best of ideas, as Chris made a heroic attempt to protect little Soph – who made a truly lightning like move to get out of the toppling chimney’s way! It was a shame certain people were missing, but such things can’t be helped.

Onto Scott’s brilliant pool party in the style that only Scott can. Mind you, he’s the only one with a pool table, so that puts him at a certain advantage, really. Still, the atmosphere was one of relaxation, even if we could only speak to Kyle over MSN and I wasn’t drinking for once (something that I really ought to repeat now and again) because of running The Shep Taxis Shuttle-bus for anyone who really needed it.

Speaking of driving, Mr James Clarke will soon be participating in dry nights too, as he passed his test (on the second attempt, I must add) on Tuesday. Congratulations to him, and we wish him many safe years driving. And, to the rest of us, do your best to keep to footpaths as far away from roads as possible. That, or slash his tyres every night to ensure he can’t drive anyway!

Continuing this whistle-stop tour of the week, a rainy yet sunny day in Lancaster for James and I was a fitting time to just space the week out a little. It’s a good little ride up to Lancaster, and it was well appreciated to keep me out of the house for yet another day.

Thursday was perhaps one of the most perfect days of their lives for the people receiving their GCSE results. Their results were simply astounding and left most without enough words to congratulate them. Still, it’s some effort to pull off so many subjects in such a way, and I’ll say well done to you all once again before the long hard slog to A-Level starts. More exams. More learning. More general pain. But it’s worth it – really it is!

To round off such a superb hand of results, a celebration was essential. And Laura provided the venue and the food and the drink to do so. We thank you for allowing us into your massive house and being such a hostess. Your brother wasn’t annoying at all, he kept out of the way for the most part, and a very good time was had by most. Simply see photos attached – I told you they’d be here! Hehehe!!

And that, my dear friends, brings us to the end of the week.

Please help out with our Soundtrack of the Summer, and to meet with people’s disappointment and abuse for leaving their favourite tracks out of the consideration, things have been improved and a compromise been found. Simply post your song under the obvious comment, explaining why the song should appear on the soundtrack. I can’t promise anything, I only have 80mins of CD to fill – and at the moment I can do that twice very easily. Still, all suggestions are welcome.

So, have a wonderful bank holiday (The last of summer) even if it is looking like a dreary wet one just for a change. And I’ll see you all shortly!

El Paulo
