The Friday E-Mail
Hello to one and all!
Spring is finally here, as the lilac and white crocuses shoot up through the lawns at school, daffodils open up to embrace the unseasonable warmth we’re having and the first buds appear on the trees. What a time to be here, to be seeing the sights, smelling the smells and enjoying the start of such a joyous season. So, get your shoes on, wrapped up if the cold wind is blowing and get outside, be it on your bike or by foot, and enjoy the season whilst you can. That’s my plan at least. And, if you can, take some photos, the weather is supposed to be good, I think.
I know I say this far too often, but still, what a week it’s been. Just looking back at the past couple of days fills me with so much joy and good feelings, that I seem to have completely disregarded Monday and Tuesday. So, if you remember something of Monday or Tuesday, then feel free to post them on my blog.
After such a great weekend of fun, with the Friday night outings at Tiggis’s and then at James’s the week got off to a fantastic, albeit a somewhat sleepy, start. But, this is the last week before the Easter Holidays, and the last week of a mere 5 week half term, so it hasn’t been all that tiring, really. This was the week to come close to finishing syllabuses, to iron out any problems and the run-up week to masses of synoptic revision over the next three weeks. What fun, eh?
Tuesday night had to be my best driving lesson ever, as I did a pretty good drive, before burning up the clutch a little as I reversed up my drive. It’s steep, let’s put it that way, and lots of revs were used, and a foul smell filled the car once I’d finished. **chuckles** Ahh well.
Wednesday has to be a favourite day of the week though. Lit and Deb, even though I came a mere third in the balloon debate alongside Mr Dylan (Henry) and beaten by Sue (Freddie Mercury – the final winner) and a marvellous piece of speaking from James (Dave Grohl) entitled him to a well earned second. And we look forward to him speaking many times more. Even though we only have five more weeks left. Rose, chairing for the second week in a row, did her best but couldn’t get ‘Grohl’ right up until the very end. Ahh well, you got there in the end!
Then came the joys of house day! A perfectly good sports lesson cancelled for our whole school competition. I must say, I missed my game of badminton, doing instead chemistry notes as I was free during round 3. But, in round 4 I excelled at the swotty event of them all – The Library Challenge. With my team of 1, another team of 1 and then a team of 2 as one team didn’t show up at all, we went down to it. 130 questions, all the library books to help with them. So many hard questions, and only 40 minutes to do them. The final scores were 19 to 8 to 8, with the 19 against my name! (I only did the easy ones though.) I was filled with great house pride with that one! But, Wigan won’t win, not a chance. With Chorley’s exploits at the football (Chris helping them to victory) and Manchester’s dominance in the previous house days this year, all we Wiganers’ can do is hope.
Then came today, Thursday, in all its half hearted glory. With most of the German staff on the German exchange, German lessons were cancelled, allowing Scott and Chris to scarper off home early the lucky devils. The morning was pretty much the same as always, with Kyle back from Leeds once more, and lessons progressed pretty smoothly. It was lunchtime which was the most fun though. On my lunchtime patrol, wandering around and around the school nothing much was happening, apart from the water bombs being thrown about around the chemi blocks, which we tried to deal with as best we could before getting Mr Harrison to sort it out. The most fun came at the end when a Year 8, I think, managed to get himself stuck behind the venders. We’re still not sure, but he clambered over to fetch a ball he’d thrown behind them. Once over, he threw the ball out before realising he was stuck. Left crying for help, once again it was up to Mr Harrison to get help from MacMillan to rescue the poor little soul, trapped behind the vending machines. Oh, how he’ll be mocked for sometime.
But, I’ll leave it there for this week, as the Malaysian Grand Prix is upon us, the final preparations for my “wink-wink-nudge-nudge-it’s-a-secret-really” gathering will be put into motion, and general enjoyment of the season. This is the Easter holidays, where a pleasant mixture of revision and fun has to be had, regardless of the upcoming exams. So, I look forward to seeing you all at some point before we return from this three week break which we all fully deserve.
So long for now!

I'm typing this a tad late from when it was first typed, but I'd like to also congratulate Mr C for his excellent argument in the music discussion that Wednesday. However, despite the potential to win, Charlie's arguments about why Eminem should have won the best musician of all time didn't cut it with me. Has he really had that many chart hits? I still can;t get over that...80 already...he must be good. *coughs*
